Frozen Beach sold out!

April 9th, 2008  |  Published in News

Thank you to all friends and supporters who made it out to the staged reading of Frozen Beach. And mad props to the actors (Dawn, Banaue, Nancy, Magin & Maureen) and Jeanette for making it an amazing, wild evening! Though the reading ran a bit long, the feedback from audiences were extremely positive. And we got to splash around in the Japan Society indoor pond! Good times.

Here are some visual highlights.

Frozen Beach listed in Flavorpill

April 1st, 2008  |  Published in News

Banana found the upcoming reading of Frozen Beach listed on Flavorpill – which is great! Except writer/rocker Kera won’t be able to attend, unfortunately, due to his busy rockstar lifestyle (?). But the cast is rockin’ and there tons of weird stuff! Decapitated thumb, murder amongst friends, mistaken identities, and the healing of the blind! Don’t miss it!

Frozen Beach

February 26th, 2008  |  Published in News

A desolate island in the South Seas. A pair of twin sisters, their blind stepmother, two friends who plot the murder of one of the twins, and a ¥5 million giraffe statuette. The hilarity and violence that ensue are the subject of Frozen Beach, a black comedy/ horror/coming-of-age play by Japanese playwright Keralino Sandorovich, and the 1999 winner of the prestigious Kishida Kunio Prize. Sandorovich, fondly known as “Kera,” is the leader of his theater company Nylon 100°C, for which he writes and directs.

In addition to his distinguished theater career, Kera is an indie-rocker, filmmaker, actor and columnist. Frozen Beach will be translated into English and directed by New York-based writer/director Aya Ogawa, founder and Artistic Director of knife, inc., resident artist at HERE Arts Center and a Usual Suspect at New York Theater Workshop. The reading will be followed by a discussion with the artists.
